KORAK
KORAK (full legal name in Croatian: Kreativne Opcije za Ruralne Aktivnosti i Klimu; in English: Creative Opportunities for Rural Activity and Climate) is a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2021 and headquartered in Križevci, Croatia.
The organization changed its name and identity in late 2024 (previously operating as the “Križevci climate innovation laboratory”) to better align with its core goals and regional work: promoting sustainable development, resilience to climate change and green policies. It operates primarily as a community-driven regional hub in the Prigorje region (Koprivnica-Križevci County), aiming to revitalize agrarian, shrinking rural areas and bridge local geographic and cultural learning gaps.
The NGO is officially represented by its President and Project Manager, Ivana Šatrak. Its scope of work includes:
Educational initiatives and community tools: Developing innovative, non-formal climate education models such as the “social rhombus” decision-making tool and distributing free professional training resources, such as securing 300 free Coursera learning licenses for the local community.
Agroecology and regenerative projects: Building community infrastructures like the inclusive “I Garden Too!” (“I ja vrtlarim!”) urban garden plots and the “Playground that Grows” (“Igralište koje raste”) regenerative educational park in Kolarec.
Regional climate and public policy governance: Acting as a key stakeholder in the CRIS (Pathways2Resilience) project, which helps coordinate environmental and climate resilience strategies across several rural municipalities.
Operating transparently, the NGO also ensures safe and ethical operations by strictly executing child protection, donation transparency, volunteer and employee supervision policies, which are published openly on its official website.
