Kilmallie Community Fridge and Garden
We are creating a more resilient, connected and sustainable community by reducing food waste, improving fair access to food and helping people develop the skills and confidence to live more sustainably. Our project rescues quality surplus and short-dated food that would otherwise go to waste, redistributing it free of charge through our community fridge, diverting it from landfill and helping to stretch household budgets whilst also supporting those in need.
Alongside this, our community garden demonstrates sustainable and regenerative growing methods, encouraging people to grow their own food, reconnect with nature and better understand local food systems. Through practical workshops, volunteering opportunities and community events, we share skills ranging from food preservation and cooking to composting, growing and other sustainable living practices.
Through all this our project brings people together, reducing social isolation, and creating lasting community bonds and a sense of belonging. Volunteers gain confidence, experience and new skills, while making a meaningful contribution to their community. By encouraging local action, sharing knowledge and supporting one another, we are helping our community become more resilient, environmentally aware and better prepared for future social, economic and environmental challenges.
