Cholo Khai – Lasst uns essen!
This new group based in Somers Town comprising mainly of females from the local Bengali community, is being set up to develop and deliver a new project: Cholo Khai. Many women in Somers Town have never been in the work marketplace, yet have incredible cooking and traditional makers skills to share. This new group’s project will be aimed at helping create small livelihoods for members, the project also has a social justice aim to help boost confidence amongst the community. The group has had regular co-design meetings one of which decided the name Cholo
Khai was what felt right. The group is now exploring a female cooperative setup and focussing on empowering local women – many of them have never worked before to gain experience running the shallow high cooke café and providing professional catering orders for an event catering business (Sharing Eats) which the group is being supported to set up. This group completely follows Transition values, but being native Bengali speakers the name Transition did not resound with them, hence the name Cholo Khai – come eat. The group hopes to encourage other women to join our planet friendly food missionz
