Sustainable Tiverton
Sustainable Tiverton (formerly Sustainable Villages, and TACT) started in 2008 in the village of Sampford Peverell, but it quickly involved people in the villages of Halberton, Uplowman, Holcombe Rogus, Hockworthy and Burlescombe, Huntsham and Clayhanger. At first all our efforts were aimed at raising awareness in our communities about global warming and peak oil. We showed films, hosted talks.. and mounted exhibitions… We now have five citizen action groups under the umbrella of the organisation which are the Tiverton Repair Cafe, The Uffculme Green Team, Community Beekeeping, the Tiverton Tree Team, and the Re-Rooted cafe and Community Fridge. We run regular a Give & Take event in Tiverton to encourage sharing resources recycling and re-using.
People now feel the need to learn new skills. Tree pruning, tool sharpening, bicycle maintainance, knitting and patchwork, permaculture and cider making were all popular. Other activities have been, the establishment of allotments, an annual apple juicing event and equipment to lend to local groups and individuals for juicing, apple tree planting in public places and a monthly on-line freecycle.
Please join us with your ideas and enthusiasm to create a truly sustainable future.
