Transition Newham, are acting as a Community Hub with over 30 associated groups on four levels:

We are aiming to be a mother hub to provide facilities and resources for our diverse community, a variety of enriching projects, mutual support and gatherings to create a sense of togetherness and to promote sustainable practice and environmental awareness in everyday life.

At the moment we have just under 400 members, with >2,000 members in associated groups.

 

Aims:

  • foster a strong sense of community and contribute to the holistic togetherness and healthy development of all members of our community. This initiative aims at creating a dedicated community hub that offers a diverse range of activities focussing on social interaction, education, creativity, physical and mental well-being, mutual aid
  • promote sustainable practice in everyday life, from redistributing tangible items (clothes, furniture, small electrical appliances and consumer elecronicals), reusing and repurposing of materials (fabric, wood, yarn) for sustainable crafts and upcyling projects, repairing items of daily use (textiles, toys, small electrical appliances and consumer elecronicals, furniture, jewellery), providing a balanced and holistic approach to environmental sustainability and community support.
  • using gardening to share first hand life science experience, understand permacultural principles of how to tend plant beds, grow vegetables, harvest rain water/ grey water, compost green and brown garden waste and use ecotherapy as a gentle approach to understand life and improve peoples wellbeing.
  • educate and encourage childred (of all ages) by listening to their feelings towards the changes in our natural environment, and empowering them with activities like sensory play sessions, sustainable craft, gardening, fixing things (Darning, Mending & Making Pretty Again), conducting research projects and themed weeks with hands on workshops (Great Green Week, Mental Health Week, Go Wild… ); based on Montessory principles, Outdoor Play and Forest school.

Avantages :

Sensibilisation à l'environnement : Sensibilisation au carbone ("Petite empreinte") offrant des conseils en matière d'économie d'énergie.

Durabilité : Réduction des déchets et promotion de l'économie circulaire (R-cycle), avec des Repair Cafés et des échanges/partages de ressources. Introduction au "jardinage vert" basé sur le concept de la permaculture.

Enrichissement éducatif : Classes Montessori pour SEND, activités de l'école de la forêt, apprentissage STEM, jeux, arts et métiers, contes. Clubs après l'école, centre d'éducation à domicile.

Bien-être physique : Activités physiques pour tous les âges et toutes les capacités afin de promouvoir des habitudes saines et des modes de vie actifs. 

Bien-être mental : Le jardinage en tant qu'activité physique et sociale pour aider les membres à s'ancrer et à se détendre dans un environnement vert et vivant.

Développement social : Plate-forme permettant aux voisins de tous horizons, de tous âges et de toutes capacités d'interagir, de se faire des amis et d'acquérir de précieuses compétences sociales par le biais d'activités de collaboration et de projets de groupe. Les connexions intersociales, intergénérationnelles et interables offrent des avantages pour tous : une compréhension plus profonde et un sens plus aigu.

Créativité et expression : Classes, cours et clubs pour encourager l'exploration des talents créatifs et leur expression libre.

Engagement communautaire : Possibilités de s'engager dans l'espace communautaire afin de favoriser un sentiment d'unité et de responsabilité partagée pour le bien-être de notre quartier, en offrant un soutien et des conseils à la communauté.

Mutual Aid: Provide free and accessible resources for the community, including women’s sanitary products. Drop off hub for donations. SMP is running sustainable craft, gardening and permaculture workshops, the Newham Sharing initiative is organising quarterly All4Free events (supporting 300-600 people with each event, saving tonnes of tangible items from going to waste), working closely together with charities, baby banks and food bank across East London.

Solidarité : Partage des ressources et redistribution de la nourriture, préparation de repas dans une soupe populaire à distribuer gratuitement à la communauté.

Security and Safety: Increased activity, support safety in the community and reduce likelihood of vandalism/antisocial behaviour.
