Sustainable Brampton’s purpose is to develop a local community response to the environmental issues of the day and to promote and support more sustainable lifestyles in Brampton and the surrounding area. We initially tackled this within five action groups: food, energy, travel, waste and reaching out. The Travel Group disbanded in 2020 and activity over the last 10 years has focused more on local food production and supporting small businesses through our monthly Farmers’ Markets.

In 2010 we created an IPS company Brampton and Beyond Energy (BABE) Ltd, which is also concerned with reducing waste (mainly farmyard manure and possibly some food). However, BABE’s ultimate purpose is to build and operate a 250 – 500kw anaerobic digester near a local dairy farm. Longer term plans are to promote local power generation generally, working in partnership with sister organisations Brampton 2 Zero and Brampton Community Trust.
