Shipley Eco-Action Group – Transition Ilkeston

Last Updated: 144 days ago

Founded in 2019 and influenced by the principles of permaculture, Shipley Eco-Action Group aims to improve the wellbeing of the local area through community projects that engage with nature and tackle the climate emergency. Since being established, we have made progress on setting up Shipley Woodside Community Garden, converting a patch of disused land into a welcoming community space where people can grow their own food and attend workshops to learn about the local wildlife and land. We also have a calendar of activities that include litter picking, re-wilding the local woods, a repair cafe, tatty day and BioBlitz.

Our next big project is establishing Transition Ilkeston, drawing upon community resources to build a new future for the major town in Shipley parish. We are currently at the stage of undertaking visioning activities with those in the local area, guided by workshops such as Future Conversations and Transition Towns: What is?. We then hope to grow our movement to make practical changes to the economy and governance of our town that will help tackle the climate emergency.
